We often wonder how our fellow entrepreneurs juggle it all (it's nice to know we’re not alone). Work, life, courting investors, locating talent, living out of suitcases, making time for friends and family — it’s an endless crucible of peaks, valleys, self-evaluation, seeking balance. Only those who've lived it really understand the highs and lows.
Alex Catchings could very well serve as the poster child (he's not a child BTW) for entrepreneurs of 2017. A self-made inventor in the energy space, Alex founded and secured funding for AltFuel™, a manufacturer of gasoline-to-propane conversion kits used in small 4-stroke engines. The engines help reduce emissions by up to 80% — saving money and protecting the environment. As if running his own business wasn't enough, Alex became Director of Sales, Small Engine Systems for Blossman Gas, the largest privately-held propane concern in the U.S.
And then, life threw a curveball: his grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and Alex found himself as primary caregiver. His grandfather’s diagnosis encouraged him to become actively involved with the Northwest Ohio Alzheimer’s Association both as the Secretary of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Governance Committee. He currently serves as Vice President of the Alzheimer’s and Dementia service board — an organization that focuses on respite care for individuals that are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Since Alzheimer’s patients sometimes wander away from home, he has spent hours training his German shepherd, Duke, as a search and rescue dog.
